Sound design – Mixing And Mastering for Songs and Albums
ABOUT ME
My name is Yaron Saffer, I’m a father of four, married to Ayala, and I live in Jerusalem.
Born in the 1980's, during my childhood and youth I still had the privilege to get excited by a new album (physical albums – cassette, vinyl, CD, minidisc, etc.) and listen to it on a loop, because that was the only album I was able to buy or get a hold of. This experience ingrained in me my love of music and the patience to listen to the same song over and over, each time hearing small details within the sounds.
Today I’m a sound man, with expertise in mixing and mastering. I’m pleased to work with talented musicians from Israel and world-wide, giving their music my full attention to every detail, especially making sure that their music will be no less than awesome.
I invite you to share with me the process of your musical creation. I’m sure I can free you from unnecessary burdens, and give your music the professional, deep and exciting sound it deserves.

MY STUDIO
My studio has everything you need to achieve the best results possible in today’s industry. A precise and fully-equipped listening area, with loudspeakers, converters and acoustics together with top quality instruments: analog gear such as compressors, equalizers, limiters, effects, as well as many plug-ins, programs etc.
I believe that the instruments are supposed to serve me, and to give me the inspiration and the ability to achieve the sound and the level of resolution that I want, in the fastest and most precise way possible. The equipment that I’ve invested in (both analog gear and digital tools) has been chosen meticulously. I’m very familiar with my tools and instruments, and use only equipment of the highest quality, in order to provide my customers with the best.
My work is completely hybrid (both with and without the computer). Everything is open and ready to work, and I choose and use the best tools for each individual situation. I don’t use ready-made templates, automatic programs or shortcuts at the expense of quality. All my work is a result of concentrated listening and attention to the channels and to the music, thereby making decisions that are both intuitive and musical. No matter what my choice is, the important thing is that it will serve the creation and give it the biggest and most impressive sound possible.
MIXING
In mixing I take all your recorded channels and make them work in a way that is uniform, interesting, persuasive and exciting. There are many methods and approaches to mixing. Throughout the years I’ve adopted various methods and today, at the beginning of each project, I decide which method to use.
My main emphasis is on precise and correct balance of roles, creating the deepest and widest sound possible, with the ability to hear all the instruments in the mixing without losing the right energies of the musical style.
Special effects, automation, anything that adds interest and enriches the sound at the artistic level – that’s what makes it fun for me!
In most songs that I mix I also do the mastering, usually but not always at the same time. This gives me control and precision, so that decisions made while mixing are an integral part of the final result.
The mixing is finished when the customer is satisfied! Part of my work is getting feedback from customers. Changes and appropriate comments are always welcome.
MASTERING
Mastering is the final stage before releasing, sending and uploading the music to the general public and to the distribution and streaming companies.
My goal at this stage is to add what is necessary to the track – no more and no less. Exaggeration or lack of precision in any element of the process can destroy the mixing and ruin the final product.
During the mastering process I make sure that the Low End is in the place, the highs and other frequencies are balanced and pleasant to the ear, the singing is in exactly the right place to receive full attention from the listeners, and that the general color of the mix fits the creation and the musical genre of the song. I also make sure that everything will sound perfect in any place, with any listening system, headphones, or mobile phones.
When I receive a track or album to master, I spend time and pay a lot of attention to the precision of the final product so that the song can be played on all the streaming platforms at the best loudness and will beat the pieces before and after it on the playlist.
VLADO MELLER WORKSHOP
After several years of work in the field I received further training by attending the Vlado Meller Mastering Workshop.
Vlado is one of the best and most senior mastering technicians in the industry. For many years he was the head mastering technician of Sony Studios and worked with the biggest names in the world – Michael Jackson, Simon & Garfunkel, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kanye West, Pink Floyd, Metallica, Shakira, Celine Dion, Oasis, and many more.
I had the privilege to receive thorough training from Vlado. He taught me his work methods and techniques including all his professional knowledge and necessary work tools. This advanced my abilities and took my skills, professionalism and understanding in mastering many significant steps forward.
